Asteroid headed towards Earth?

Asteroid headed towards Earth?
If you're worried about an asteroid smashing into your home planet, I believe you have a legitimate reason for being fearful because it could actually happen. It is more a matter of when, how large the asteroid, and where the asteroid impacts the planet. The good news is that I have an easy and relatively inexpensive solution to the asteroid problem. Please read below.

Slot Machines, Radio Telescopes, and Asteroids
I remember the first time I went to a casino. I didn't go to gamble. I went to bowl in their brand new bowling facility. Anyway, as I walked through the casino, I noticed that most of the huge room was filled with slot machines. At first I was impressed that some of the slots were totally electronic or even computer generated. It was clear that technology has kept pace with the gambling industry. Then I noticed how the people just sat there like zombies entranced by pictures of cherries, lemons, bars, and "lucky sevens" with their hand permanently connected to the crank, lever, handle, or whatever you call that thing that cranks the slot machine. I made my way to the bowling alley and quickly forgot about the slot people. Finally, my bowling was over and I headed back out to the gambling section to wait for my ride and so I sat and waited. I then noticed that most of the very same slot people were still sitting at the same slot machines just like they had been two hours before. As I sat there I began to realize that these people were addicted to these machines and that they were probably going to be there for many more hours to come. I also noticed that they were bright eyed, alert, and basically working harder than most people work at their jobs.

Then it dawned on me.

I was witnessing human man hours (and plenty of women hours) being put to no good use just sitting there wasting human effort and energy. Then I recalled a news story from a couple of weeks prior that mentioned that planet Earth only had a hand full of people watching out for asteroids or any other object that might head into our terrestrial space. I put 2 + 2 together and said hey wait a minute. I know where we can gets thousands if not millions of able minded, alert, hard working, motivated, volunteers to man the telescopes! All we have to do is build slot machines that are tied into all the radio telescopes of the world. We could integrate a computer monitor that would display a blip on the screen for any large object it detects approaching earth. Since all our slot machine helpers will be scanning the skies free of charge, the government and/or casinos could then offer a cash prize for any objects they detect. It would be a small price to pay for the safety of the planet and it would also be much less than the cost of employing a large work force of sky scanners. Interesting enough, I live in sunny New Mexico where there is no shortage of casinos and it also happens to be home to the Very Large Array (VLA) of Radio Telescopes.
